本书是《大学英语自主听力教程》的第一册，共16个单元，由音素、元音辨识、辅音辨识、辅音连缀、重读与轻读、不完全爆破、同化与省音、连读、意群与停顿、词重音与句子重音、重音转移、节奏及语调等内容组成。每单元都依据练习内容安排练习形式，独具匠心地将枯燥乏味的语音、语调训练用具有生动意义的形式表现出来，既有助于掌握基本的语音、语调知识，矫正语音、改进语调；又能扩大词汇量，提高实际应用语言的能力。参考答案和录音文稿附于书后，便于读者自行掌握并调节进度。
　　本书主要供各类大专院校一年级学生及英语自修者使用，同时也可供那些渴望提高英语听力的高年级学生及研究生采用。

张隆胜教授，澳大利亚拉特罗布大学外语教学法硕士学位。历任湖北省大学外语教学研究会常务理事，华中师范大学公共外语系主任、研究生教研室主任、大学英语教研室主任。现为华中师范大学大学英语教学研究中心主任。先后在核心期刊上发表论文4篇，出版著作12部。1993年获国务院政府特殊津贴。
