本册教材是“国际合作综合英语教学实例系列教材”小学第一册（1A、1B）的下分册（1B），适用于实验班一年级下学期。作为实验基本教材，同我们强调教学中要有大语言量一样，也引进了较大量的相关词汇，这是依据儿童语言发展需要而采定的内容和难度，有轻重之分，以保证实验目标的实现， 这是其他教材所代替不了的。但本册不搞词汇教学、不简单背记单词，不主张枯燥反复的讲练，而突出把培养儿童英语语言能力放在第一位，注重营造轻松愉悦，贴近儿童生活和兴趣的语言习得过程。本教材强调全英语教学，预计儿童经过本册学习后，可初步掌握词汇近400个，句型51个，听懂生活及课堂常用语、并进行简单的生活对话；更重要的是，将使儿童产生应有的英语语感和学习兴趣。
本册设10个单元，分别以不同的活动性主题为教学单元加以呈现，同时配有教材录音、学生练习册和教师家长用书。B册为练习册，与教材相配套，有助于了解学生的学习。“教师家长用书”是重要的教学指导书，既有利教师教学，也有利于家长相应地配合，更好地提高孩子的英语水平。本书的编排力图使整个教材呈开放性，给教学留有很大的空间，教师可以根据学生的实际情况进行适当地伸缩，不必拘泥于教材的某种片段。
